Security operations tools that monitor communication patterns and flag deviations from established baseline behavior catch what content analysis misses. The signal is not in the content. It is in the deviation from normal.
Social engineering red team exercises that use AI-generated attacks. If your security awareness program tests employees with generic phishing simulations, you are testing for attacks from 2020. It should be a mandatory two-person authorization requirement, a mandatory cooling-off period before execution, a mandatory callback to a pre-registered device number, or a combination of these. Design the process so that no single point of social engineering can authorize the action regardless of how convincing the request appears. This is not a technology control. It is a process control. And it is the most durable defense against an attack that is specifically designed to defeat human judgment under pressure.
What Boards and Executives Need to Understand
Three things that leaders outside the security function need to know about AI-enabled social engineering in 2026.
